has anyone tried these nice looking (imo) phones? Better still does anyone on here use them. The split on here seems to be largely sennheiser & grado - does anyone use anything else?
Im currently a sennheiser man hd580 and just want something new.Re: beyerdynamic dt880

Well in addition to the Grado and the Sennheiser I have two AKG's the K340 and K701. I also have the 2005 Beyer DT990. The K701 and the DT990 are very nice cans and I thoroughly enjoy them.
Personally I prefer the sound of the K701 or the DT990 over my Senn HD600. I still have not decided which is better the K701 or the DT990. I believe my wife has and to her the K701 is the best. Heck she even prefers the K701 over my Grado RS-1. Blasphemy I say!Re: beyerdynamic dt880

I heared some about the beyer, and had some questions about in head-fi.org too.
The most experience - get a new 2006 model with 250 Ohm (if you dont want to hear over a mobile device).
I have a senn HD600 and think about a Beyer - but I would prever the PRO series with 250 Ohm
Pro series
DT 770 PRO, DT 880 PRO, DT 990 PRO
Consumer premiumline
DT 770 Edition 2005, DT 880 Edition 2005, DT 990 Edition 2005
But call Beyer per email
http://www.beyerdynamic.de/One answer from beyer - but sorry it's german:
Re: beyerdynamic dt880

The DT880 Edition 2005 will continue to carry it's name this year. It was revised (along with the other 'big' hifi cans DT990 and DT 770) last year hence the designation of the year 2005.

The ambient noise dampening?filtering (?) of the DT880 is very limited and the same ear pads are used as with the DT990. Only the outer bowls do have a reduced opening compared to the 990.

The 250 ohm cans are soundwise more balanced with a higher resolution. On the other hand the lower ohm versions are louder with battery powerd devices (low voltage intercom devices, ipods etc.). This should not be an issue with your headphone amp.

The DT250 is a very neutral and relatively compact can.
The DT770 Pro is meachincally larger and is designed more towards HiFi with slightly reduced mid highs.

Also a very neutral closed can is the DT48.The metall construction of the bracket/frame (the thing - above the head band - that holds the bowls together folks) and the bowls themselfes makes it rather heavy.Re: beyerdynamic dt880

thanks jelosno & Fritzs
Im very tempted to get a pair as :
1) I live in a 1 headphone house and you can never have enough pairs
2) it'd be nice to have some new phones to go with my wna mk3 once i finish it.
3) nobody has said they're rubbish yet

difference between DT880 Edition 2005 and DT880Pro, if you want the newest buy the DT880Prohere the anwer from beyer in german
Hallo Herr Stockhammer,
Viele Gruesse,

Hello Mr. Stockhammer,
the only difference between the DT880 edition 2005 and the DT880Pro is the hardness of the handle: while the Hifi listener with a pressure of on the average 2,7N rests against the head, there is with the pro version 3,5N, the pros listener sits thus somewhat more strammer. In addition the forks are, in those the caps hung up are somewhat broader for optical reasons with the Hifi listener (pleased the Hifi colleagues simply better...). Klanglich are marginal the differences, by the higher contact pressure depending upon head size the bass range are completely easily raised. 2006 or 2007 versions it presumably to give, the Hifi listener comes did not only see from the year 2005 and the pro version few weeks ago the light of the world.
Many greetings, beyerdynamic)))) GmbH & CO. KgRe: beyerdynamic dt880

ahemm,
Most probably there will be no 2006 or 2007 versions. The can (Hifi listener... ;D) is relatively new - launched 2005 - and the Pro Version saw the light of day for the first time only a couple of weeks ago

Hi southpaw.
I own both a pair of Senn HD 580 and a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 880 2005 edt.
There's no doubt in my opinion that the 880 is a much better sounding headphone. I think the differences between these two cans are obvious. The 880 has tons of clarity and crisp, and a wonderful detailed midrange. The sound stage is big, seamless, deep and smooth. It sounds slightly brighter, or not as neutral as the 580.

Hi Petter, Nice to find someone else with exactly the same combination of headphones. Im still looking for a pair at the moment - I prefer the look of the 2003 edition. But im sold on a pair just as soon as I can find one.Re: beyerdynamic dt880

another translation:
"The single difference between the DT880 Edition 2005 and the DT880Pro is the hardness of the bow: while the Hifi-listener with a pressure of on the average 2,7N adjoins at the head, are sits it in the per-version 3,5N, that per listener therefore somewhat more tightly. Moreover the forks are suspended are pleased, in which the ear shells for optical reasons at the Hifi-listener somewhat extended (that the Hifi-colleagues simply better. ..). Tonal the differences are is raised marginal, through the higher pressure, according to head size, the bass area very easily. 2006 or 2007 versions there not presumably will be, the Hifi-listener comes from the year 2005 and the per-version has first a few weeks ago the light of the world perceived. "
so I guess the difference is that the new model looks better (with extended ear shells) and fits tighter... and therein lies the sonic improvement.
